Proceedings followed in the city of Guayaquil against a slave belonging to Mrs. Ambrosia Salavarria, for smuggling tobacco.

Heritage document in the National Archive of Ecuador, in the series Tobacco Levies, box 7, file 19, number of pages: 10.

Cocoa, coffee and tobacco plantations existed in Ecuador’s coastal area, therefore, it is assumed that they used slave labour.
