Peru - Cajon peruano (Peruvian Box Drum)

The Peruvian box drum is a percussion instrument devised by African slaves that had settled in the coastal areas of the country. Since the playing of drums in their celebrations was prohibited by the Catholic Church and the authorities of the viceroyalty, they devised a substitute that would accompany their celebrations.
