Cuba - Barracón del Ingenio Carolina (Slave quarters of Carolina sugar mill)

The Carolina sugar mill and the hamlet surrounding it was founded by Guillermo Hood Clemens, in the years of the “sugar boom” during the 1830’s and it is an example of vernacular and industrial architecture, with outstanding stately mansions and the industrial installations linked to sugar, a symbiosis that together with the slavery that nurtured them, are an important part of the identity of our people.
