Cuba - Ruinas del Ingenio Taoro (Ruins of Taoro sugar mill)

This sugar mill was built between 1857 and 1860. On January 7th, 1896, General Antonio Maceo’s troops engaged the Spanish Army on this site. The partial destruction of the installations occurred when the Cuban Army set them on fire. The ruins of the slave barracks, industrial facilities and the mill’s stack remain today.
