For several weeks every summer Barbados celebrates Crop Over, an exciting and vibrant extravaganza of music and masquerade, history and culture to mark the end of the sugar cane cutting season. Festival origins can be traced back to the 1780's, when Barbados was one of the world's foremost producers of sugar, and a festival was held at the culmination of each sugar season.

The present day Crop Over Festival is a uniquely Barbadian festival that emerged out of the meeting and merging of the island’s British and West African heritage.

The Crop Over Festival is a 3 month-long festival of Barbadian music, arts, food, culture and so much more. Barbados ends the festivities with a grand carnival parade know as Kadooment Day. Kadooment is known as the biggest and sweetest carnival to end the Caribbean’s carnival season in August each year. The event starts early morning at the National Stadium and beautiful masquerade bands traverse the local city streets ending on Spring Garden highway late in the afternoon.
