11 May 2015/ UNESCO Office in Montevideo

The course is designed to offer INTERPOL personnel with tools needed in the prevention and investigation of crimes linked to Cultural Heritage, a matter of growing importance in a borderless globalised context. Through theoretical-practical classes, the course provides an in-depth analysis of themes relative to the Fight against the Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property.

Aspects such as the role of the Argentine Federal Police in the Fight against the Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property; current legislation in this respect; the role of UNESCO and the international conventions UNESCO 1970 and UNIDROIT in 1995 will be thoroughly dealt with.

In addition, a demonstration will be given on the international INTERPOL Stolen Works of Art Database by the General Secretariat of the International Criminal Police Organisation (ICPO) or INTERPOL.

Restoration and inspection, the problem of forgeries in visual arts, the role of the Financial Information Unit and crimes linked to Cultural Heritage will also form part of the course thematic programme.
