25 June 2015/#Unite4Heritage
If you're passionate about photography or writing and have a great example of cultural heritage that matters to you, enter the #Unite4Heritage photo and story contest! Simply post a photo of cultural heritage to Facebook or Instagram along with a brief explanation of why it’s important to you, and you can win a Canon DSLR camera, or be published in the World Heritage Magazine and featured in a special #Unite4Heritage online gallery!
Entries will also contribute to the global conversation on the #Unite4Heritage hashtag, which celebrates the diversity of the world's culture and heritage. It acts as a counter-narrative to extremist propaganda that this diversity is something to be attacked and destroyed. The idea of cultural heritage is something that unites us all, and includes everything from sites and places, to objects and artefacts, to cultural traditions such as dance, music and cuisine.
UNESCO maintains extensive databases of some of the world’s most important cultural treasures, including the World Heritage List, Memories of the World Register and Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The contest, however, is open to any and all examples of cultural heritage, from world-famous landmarks, to places, objects and traditions that may be precious just to you.
The photo and story contest is open until 18 August, 2015. You can enter as many times as you like, but each entry must include a photo and description, and can be submitted on Facebook or Instagram by tagging the post with the #Unite4Heritage hashtag. Posts must also be set to ‘Public’ in order to be included.
To read more about the contest and see the full terms and conditions, visit the #Unite4Heritage website at http://www.unite4heritage.org/contest
