20 July 2015/ UNESCO Office in San José
Cultural managers, tradition bearers, officials and other members of cultural entities in Costa Rica and Panama participate in the Workshop on Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventorying, which is held from 15 to 17 July and from 20 to 22 July respectively.
The activity, organized by the Culture Sector of the UNESCO Office for Central America, is considered of great importance since it enables the different actors involved in the implementation of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ratified by Costa Rica in 2007 and by Panama in 2004) to update their knowledge of the different themes dealt with in this international instrument. The programme benefits a total of seventy persons (thirty from each country), chosen by the Centre for Cultural Heritage Conservation of the Ministry of Culture and Youth of Costa Rica and the National Institute of Culture of Panama (INAC).
The three-day workshop given by Ms María Ismenia Toledo, anthropologist and expert on the 2003 Convention, deals with themes such as: key concepts of the Convention, basic notions on ICH inventorying for its safeguarding, need for community-based inventorying, methods and techniques for inventorying, normative framework for information generation and organization. In addition, the workshop counts with practice sessions and debates where examples of good practices may be shared.
At the end of the workshop, participants will receive a diploma issued by UNESCO certifying the training received.
