For the Caribbean, one of the most significant moments of history was the slave trade, the driving force of an economy based for centuries on colonial plantations and the foundation of our cultures and nationalities today.
That legacy has contributed throughout valuable elements which are disseminated through the entire region, many of which have a universal character. However, a just consideration has not been achieved of this legacy, its diversity and dimensions, the cultural richness associated with the communities that live in those sites at present, nor its expression in languages, creeds, rites, cooking, festivities and traditional techniques.
The Project Places of Memory of the Slave Route in the Latin Caribbean aims at identifying, protecting and appreciating the true values of this huge legacy and the cultural manifestations associated with the bearer communities. The project is also designed to empower this legacy as a source for the sustainable development of these communities.....
