The UNESCO Chair in Cultural Tourism Untref-Aamnba and the UNESCO Villa Ocampo Programme invite you to attend the lecture “The legacy of Victoria Ocampo and World Heritage” to be given by Arch. Alfredo Conti.
The World Heritage Convention was adopted by the UNESCO General Conference in 1972. Victoria Ocampo died in 1979, when the implementation of Convention was still in its initial stage. Although Victoria was not directly involved in the conception and elaboration of the Convention, its objectives and principles coincide with the concerns and issues to which she dedicated a considerable part of her life.
Regarding the Villa Ocampo legacy to UNESCO, she expressed that it was to be used in activities “…aimed at improving the quality of human life, international cooperation and peace among peoples”, objectives that fully coincide with those of the Convention.
The lecture will focus on the subtle yet strong ties that exist between the thinking and works of Victoria Ocampo and the goals and achievements of the World Heritage Convention.
