Capacity-Building Seminar: “Conservation and Restoration Actions in Underwater Cultural Heritage”

The seminar is organised by the Spanish Cooperation Training Centre in Montevideo, in the framework of the Ibero-American Programme for Specialised Technical Training and the State Secretariat of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Spain.
The event, to be held from 10 to 14 August 2015 in Montevideo (Uruguay), is addressed to professionals of Latin America and the Caribbean who work in administrative and academic institutions (museum curators, restorers, archaeologists, etc.), public managers in charge of underwater cultural heritage, cultural managers, as well as any professional whose activity is related to the enhancement and conservation of the cultural heritage.
It is specially indicated for professionals who have participated in the “Secrets under the Waves” project that UNESCO implemented in the region as part of the programme “Capacity building, implementation actions and increase ratification schemes for the 2001 Convention for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage in Latin America and the Caribbean“, carried out with the support of Spanish cooperation.
The seminar is aimed at strengthening lines of cooperation in inter-institutional and professional conservation-restoration. The activity hopes to divulge the articulation of the methodological system used by the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute (IPCE) and the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQUA) for the conservation-restoration of the underwater cultural heritage.
The objective is to develop capacity-building in order to create institutional networks with Ibero-American heritage entities and promote specific areas of work and collaboration on these themes.
