In 1948 Brown Institute was created as a civil association, aimed at promoting and glorifying the founding father in the sea and founder of Argentina Armada, Admiral Guillermo Brown. Besides, through investigation the Institute is intended to disseminate the Argentine naval and maritime conscience.
Decree No. 1486/96 of National Executive Power, on December 19th, 1996 raised it to the category of National Institute, so, it is part of Department of Culture of Presidency of the Nation.
It fulfills its goals through research and exposure of the life and work of Admiral Brown, his collaborators and subordinates; the divulgation of the history of the Argentine Navy; the study and dissemination of Argentine maritime and fluvial interests, circumscribed to their historical aspects.
