  General Information:
Just after the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports was created, the Department for the Protection of the Historic, Artistic and Cultural Heritage was born.

One of its first achievements of this institution was the restoration of several outstanding buildings and sites, such as La Casona de Santa Rosa in Guanacaste, Las Arcadas in San José, the Church and Convent of Orosi, the Ruins of Ujarrás in Cartago, the Temple of San Blas in Nicoya, all significant architectural monuments. The Center also implemented major research projects in the field of popular culture which resulted in publications on various topics related to heritage.

In November 1976 the name was changed to Centro de Investigación y Conservación del Patrimonio Histórico Cultural. The Center is currently more steady and sensible within the Ministry of Culture and Youth with a rather complex structure that includes varied functions and programmes allowing excellent qualitative and quantitave results in the four areas of work: education, implementtion of the legal framework, research and restoration.

The Center publishes the journal Patrimonio, that deals with various heritage-related topics and the collective legacy of a certain social group. Articles in the journal range from technical problems in buildings to be declared heritage, to research, going through literary analysis, cosmovision of Indian communities, etc. Suscriptions are accepted through the e-mail of the Center.

The Center also published Patrimonio Cultural – Diversidad en nuestra creación y herencia, the Presentación of which was made by Fernando González Vázquez with the following contents:
