Open Day at the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean

21 November 2022/ UNESCO Havana

As part of the actions in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean opened the doors of its headquarters in Havana, Cuba.

The Open Day took place from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on 19th November 2022. During this period, nearly a hundred fifty people visited the Office, including young people, families with children, for whom the colleagues of the Office, led by the Director, Anne Lemaistre, became Heritage Guides.

The building that has occupied the office since 1963, located on Calzada 551 in Havana, celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2022. Itis part of the architectural treasures of the Vedado neighbourhood, built as a result of the economic prosperity of some Cuban families since the second half of the 19th century and, above all, at the beginning of the 20th century.

The activity also allowed visitors to appreciate the exhibition placed in the outside gates of the building on the World Heritage sites of Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the 1972 Convention, and also to familiarize themselves with the programmes implemented by UNESCO.
