Peru: Ministry of Culture to confer the Meritorious Personality award to 24 women for their contribution to culture
 
    
Women representing different cultural expressions will be awarded on International Women’s Day

Within the framework of the celebration of International Women’s Day, the Ministry of Culture will confer the Meritorious Personality award to 24 “women who have contributed to Culture”, with their outstanding work in our country through art, education, research and cultural and political activism.

The women will received the distinction at the hands of the Minister of Culture, Diana Álvarez-Calderón; the Deputy Minister for Interculturality, Patricia Balbuena; and the Deputy Minister for Cultural Heritage and Cultural Industries, Luis Jaime Castillo Butters, at a special ceremony to be held on Thursday, 12 March, at noon, at the Mario Vargas Llosa Auditorium in the National Library of Peru.

The 24 women were proposed by the general divisions and more specialized departments of Culture after a careful analysis of their curriculum and work in the different areas of creation, art and research, as well as in the enhancement of our cultural diversity.

The Ministry of Culture will present this recognition to: writer Carmen Granadino Penalillo, artisan Victoria Estela Palomino, educator Elvira Olivas Miraval, filmmaker Heddy Honigmann Pach, educator Rosa Neyra de Oyola, poet Mariela Dreyfus Vallejo, actress Mariela Trejos Benítez, singer Nilda Mucha “Florcita Huanca”, biologist Elizabeth Terán Reátegui, playwright Delfina Paredes Aparicio, anthropologists Lucy Trapnell Forero and María Magdalena Alemán Rujel, educador and writer Nelly Villanueva Figueroa, sociologist Virginia Vargas Valente, the president of the House of the Afro-Carmelite Woman Association , Mirtha Cartagena Castrillón, philosopher Pepi Patrón Costa, sociologist Julia Isabel Álvarez Novoa, designer Carmen Toledo Araoz de Correa and sculptor Lía Anna María Vermeulen, Lika Mutal, educator Nelly Díaz Guzmán, journalist Sonaly Tuesta Altamirano, cultural manager Teresa Mancilla Romero, cultural promoter Alicia Soledad Gómez Valdez y anthropologist María del Pilar Fortunic Olivera.
