The Chilean National Council of Culture and the Arts (CNCA), the UNESCO Regional Office for Education and the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Latin America (CRESPIAL) organised this Seminar, held at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Centre in Santiago de Chile on 26-27 May 2011.
Representing the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, Fernando Brugman, Coordinator of its Culture Programme, participated in the opening session, as well as in the UNESCO Workshop "Raising awareness regarding the 2003 Convention and its Implementation: UNESCO Policies in Intangible Cultural Heritage", which formed part of the programme for the event.
The aim of the seminar and the workshop was to disseminate and promote the role of State institutions in the conservation and assessment of intangible heritage, to disseminate and promote the role of UNESCO, CRESPIAL and the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, and to provide information on the tools and strategies available at the national and international levels to ensure the promotion and safeguarding of this heritage.
The opening of the seminar was attended by the Minister President of the Chilean National Council of Culture and the Arts (CNCA), Luciano Cruz-Coke, who stressed the importance of conserving and promoting the recovery of the country’s intangible cultural heritage.
The event, designed for public officials, NGO representatives and communities custodians of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as members of foundations, businessmen, professors and students, was widely attended by members of the civil society.
