The Fifth Meeting of the Governing Board of the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Latin America (CRESPIAL) was held on 10-11 January 2011 at its headquarters in Cusco, Peru.
The opening address was delivered by CRESPIAL Director General, Mr. Jaime Urrutia. Also participating in the opening session were Mr. Coriún Aharonián, current Chairperson of the CRESPIAL Governing Board and Fernando Brugman, Culture Team Coordinator and Programme Specialist at the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, an entity designated to represent UNESCO’s Director-General at CRESPIAL.
The topics discussed included the review of CRESPIAL’s management in 2010, the examination of the institution’s Regional Projects, its networking, as well as other administrative issues. CRESPIAL’s projection for 2011 was also analyzed.
CRESPIAL was created as a category II centre on 22 February 2006, after the signing of an agreement between UNESCO and the Government of Peru, a decision that had been adopted during the 32nd UNESCO General Conference.
At present the following Member States are participating in the work of CRESPIAL: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
