The Project Cameras of Diversity ABCD is aimed at strengthening the film industry contribution to sustainable local development in Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean, and at fostering intercultural dialogue and South-South cooperation through the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean and its Diasporas are the Project geographic ABCD, which seeks to enhance cultural exchange through local-content film promotion among these historically interrelated sub-regions.
The major project-proposed activities include a Travelling Caribbean, Brazilian and African Film Showcase, thanks to the experience previously gained by the
Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase in these two regions, so that the number of local productions that are seen in these regions can grow and the cultural market can be further strengthened. Another initiative has to do with the training of young filmmakers, with special emphasis on women, and the exchange of professionals in academic filmmaking training between schools and institutions in these regions.
Cameras of Diversity ABCD is being supported by the network of filmmakers and other professionals related to ABCD Cinema meetings (Cuba, 2011; and Santo Domingo, 2012), where the present project was designed and developed thanks to professional exchange and UNESCO’s presence. Danny Glover, honorary chairman of the Caribbean Travelling Film Showcase -entity which organized the above-mentioned meetings- was unanimously acclaimed at the latest meeting in Santo Domingo as Honorary Chairman of the Project Cameras of Diversity ABCD.
