4 March 2015/ UNESCO Office in Montevideo
Within the framework of the celebrations commemorating International Women‘s Day, the International Centre for the Promotion of Human Rights (CIPDH) of Argentina and the UNESCO Office in Montevideo, extend an invitation to the launching of the Spanish edition of the UNESCO publication “Gender Equality. Heritage and Creativity”.
A panel composed of government and UNESCO representatives and coordinated by the president of the CIPDH Executive Board, Dr. Baltasar Garzón Real, will discuss, parting from the the publication, the academic and institutional contributions to gender equality at the national and international levels.
Based on two fundamental pillars, heritage and creativity, this new publication provides a global look of the current scenario with regard to the challenges and opportunities of gender equality in cultural life.
Through concrete evidence, the report offers decision-makers, governments and civil society in general resources to understand the gender gaps and as a result to take actions and elaborate policies in this field.
The UNESCO approach to promoting gender equality in cultural life is based on a commitment to diversity in the international framework of Human Rights.
The publication of this report in Spanish has been possible thanks to the invaluable support of the International Centre for the Promotion of Human Rights under the auspices of UNESCO, in coordination with the UNESCO Regional Office for Sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean and UNESCO Cluster Office to Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
“My sole ambition is to be able to write someday a bit better, or a bit worse, but as a woman.” (Victoria Ocampo, who bequeathed her home in 1973 to UNESCO to give continuity to her work in favour of intercultural dialogue and women’s rights.)
