Cultural industries as instruments for Latin American integration |

The Latin American Integration Association (LAIA) and the Ministry of Education and Culture, with the support of the UNESCO Montevideo Office are organising the “International Symposium: Cultural industries as instruments for Latin American integration”, on 15 May 2015, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
On the occasion of celebrating the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, and in the framework of the tenth anniversary of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, UNESCO will present the United Nations Creative Economy Report 2013 and discuss the importance of cultural industries in development.
The resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2013, where the role of culture as an engine and facilitator for sustainable development is recognised, constitutes an invitation to further mobilise the potential of cultural diversity.
Culture is not just another type of merchandise, and this principle, recognised at the international level by the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, is the leitmotif for elaborating more innovative and sustainable development strategies.
