Presentation of the report “Gender Equality: Heritage and Creativity” in the framework of the 3rd International Forum on Women’s Rights |

On 3 June, the Third International Forum on Women’s Rights: “Power WITH Women, Another Construction is Possible” took place at La Plata’s Argentine Theatre, under the auspices of UNESCO.
This Forum constitutes a space for analysis and reflection promoted by the government of the province of Buenos Aires, through the Provincial Women’s Council, concerning women’s participation and leadership in democratic life, as well as in other spheres of life.
This year, the Forum was held within the framework of the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing +20), where 30,000 activists and representatives from 189 governments agreed on a historic agenda to promote the empowerment and the rights of all women in the world, recognising the consequences of gender inequality for sustainable development.
On this occasion, the report “Gender Equality. Heritage and Creativity” published by UNESCO in 2014 was presented. Based on two fundamental pillars, namely heritage and creativity, this report provides a global vision of the present scenario concerning the challenges and opportunities for gender equality in cultural life.
With concrete evidence, the report offers decision-makers, governments and civil society general resources that can be used to understand gender gaps, and, accordingly, take actions and elaborate policies in this field.
Based on UNESCO’s commitment to promote human rights, which includes women’s rights in cultural life, the report acknowledges that culture is the determining factor in achieving a person’s development, irrespective of gender, as well as in achieving global and inclusive sustainable development.
