The major objectives of the meeting were to assess the activities carried out by the three National Committees in the period 2005-2007 and adopt a common strategy for the 2008-2009 biennium

Within the context of the New Strategy of The Slave Route Project, was held in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic on December 4 and 5, the meeting of the National Committees of the Slave Route Project of Cuba, Haiti, and Dominican Republic.
The venue of the meeting was the National Dominican Commission for UNESCO and was organized by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean and the UNESCO Port-au-Prince with the cooperation of the National Dominican Commission for UNESCO and the Dominican National Committee for the Slave Route Project.
Dr. Miguel Barnet, Dr. Laennec Hurbon and Dr. Hugo Tolentino, Presidents of the National Committees of Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic respectively, assessed the activities carried out by the three National Committees in the period 2005-2007, one of the major objectives of the meeting together with the adoption of a common strategy for the 2008-2009 biennium.
On the second working day was presented the publication on the Project “Places of Memory of the Slave Route in the Latin Caribbean” (multimedia), which was very well received by the National Committees, which expressed the need to continue the follow up to the project in the next biennium.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a common strategy for the 2008-2009 biennium, and the formulation of some considerations addressed to the International Scientific Committee of the Slave Route Project.
The participants in the meeting visited Boca de Nigua Sugarmill one of the sites identified as Place of Memory of the Slave Route in Dominican Republic.
