Meeting of Experts of "The Slave Route" in the Latin Caribbean

The conference was inaugurated on May 17th, at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Alberto Granados, Director of the House of Africa of the Office of the Historian of Havana welcomed the participants in his opening remarks. After the opening address, Dr. Fernando Rojas, President of the National Council of Houses of Culture, on behalf of Dr. Marta Arjona, President of the National Commission for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the national Council of Cultural Heritage, welcomed the participants and discussed the significance of the conference.

Mr. Frédéric Vacheron, Specialist on Cultural Projects and Coordinator of the Cultural Team at the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean de la Oficina Regional de Cultura para América Latina spoke on behalf of Mr. Herman van Hooff, director of the Office.

On behalf of the delegates of the Latin Caribbean countries (Aruba, Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic), Mrs. Risoris Silvestre (Dominican Republic) read the Report of the Rapporteur of the meeting held in Havana on 17 - 19 May 2006.
